Let's take a closer look at what the Tick for Governance course has to offer.

Overview of the Course

The Tick for Governance course is a friendly and easy-to-digest online course that covers various aspects of community governance. It is designed to be flexible and accessible, and you can complete the modules from home and at your own pace.

The course is divided into 10 different modules, starting with Te Tiriti and Relationships with Māori, and covering governance foundations, legal responsibilities, management, the numbers, policy and procedure and more.

Each module is designed to be interactive and engaging, incorporating real-life case studies, discussion prompts, and practical exercises. Participants will also have access to valuable resources, templates, and tools to support their governance roles.

Benefits of "A Tick for Governance"

Enrolling in the Tick for Governance course can provide community leaders with a wide range of benefits, including:

  1. Enhanced Governance Skills: The course equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their governance roles effectively. From understanding legal and ethical obligations to mastering best practices in decision-making and financial management, participants will gain valuable skills that can be applied in their governance roles and beyond.

  2. Increased Confidence: The course aims to boost participants' confidence in their governance roles by providing them with a solid understanding of governance principles and practices. Armed with this knowledge, participants can make informed decisions, engage in constructive discussions, and effectively contribute to their organisations strategic direction.

  3. Networking and Peer Learning: Although everyone must do this course as an individual, community leaders could take the opportunity to facilitate group discussions, share experiences and challenges, and learn from real-life case studies in teams.

  4. Improved Organisation Performance: Effective governance is directly linked to the performance and sustainability of an organsation. By applying the principles and practices learned in the course, participants can contribute to improved governance within their organisations, leading to better decision-making, stronger financial management, and enhanced organisational performance.

  5. Recognized Accreditation: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a micro-credential from NZQA, and a certificate from Community Networks Aotearoa, a recognized and respected organisation in the community sector. This accreditation can add value to participants' professional profiles and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in governance.
